Best Friends

Finding a friend, let alone a best friend, can be hard these days. I know lots of people, but I don't have many close friends. But I have been forunate to remain best friends with two of my friends from high school. We started going to college together, but they transferred after our freshman year. Even though we weren't at the same school, we still remained good friends. We have been in each other weddings, gone to concerts, and gone out to eat at our favorite restaurants.

It was the week before Bill and I were announcing that we were expecting, when I received a call from one of my best friends. She too, after praying for a baby, was expecting. I, of course couldn't tell her our news yet because our family didn't know, but was so happy and excited for her. She felt bad because she was pregnant and I wasn't, but she would soon find out I was pregnant too. I must say that it was one of the best times of my life. I was so glad we got to experience it together. She would usually call me every 2 weeks and we would discuss what was going on, how we felt, craving, etc. We had so much fun, and it was so exciting to find out she was having twins and we were having all girls! We knew it would bring us even closer.

My due date was July 29th and hers was the end of August, but with twins, she knew she wouldn't make it that long, so her doctor gave her the due date of August 2nd, which was when the twins would be 36th weeks (I think). I was headed to my sister's in Elletsville after work on July 28th to spend some time with her and nephews because I knew it would be the last time I could enjoy it before my baby arrived. On the way up, my friend called to tell me she was being induced the next day, but was headed to the hospital that night. It was very exciting, but also scary because with twins, anything can go wrong. The next day came, which was my Friday off. I had my 40 week appointment, which determined that if baby girl hadn't arrived by that Friday, I would be induced. I wanted to get a new camera, so hubs and I went to Evansville (crazy, I know) and got a few last things and my Nikon camera. While we were there, my friend text and said the baby girls had arrived. Both were doing good, but in the NICU. Her babies had arrived on my due date. She had made the comment that since her babies arrived on my due date then my baby had to be born on her due date, August 2nd. That was the only day I didn't want to have her because that is Bill's birthday.

As you can guess, Peyton was born on August 2nd, her due date. It makes our bond and our friendship meant to be. After her daughters got out of the NICU, she even moved, so instead of being 2 hours away, she is 15 minutes! I absolutely LOVE this! We finally got the girls together to meet on Friday, August 19th. Peyton had her 2 week appointment that morning-she weighed 6 lbs. 13 ounces! That afternoon we had our first playdate. Not much playing got done-it was more like feeding and changing diapers, but was so fun and a dream come to true for both of us.

Future Best Friends!

I'm sure they will laugh at these first pictures together someday! But it was such a precious moment for their mommies! I look forward to every moment of these girls growing up together!

  1. What a neat story! That one will have to go in her baby book!
